Entry Requirements for Rail System Control and Automation Laboratory
The following academic and technical competencies are expected for admission to our laboratory:
Fundamental Knowledge and Areas of Interest
Candidates should possess basic knowledge of rail systems and demonstrate motivation toward this field. Familiarity with the concept of Safety Integrity Level (SIL) is essential. Additionally, understanding fail-safe coding principles and basic knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) is required. A willingness and enthusiasm for documentation are also expected.
Technical Competencies
Candidates should exhibit:
- Interest and basic proficiency in at least one programming language
- Competence in reading and preparing technical documentation
Software Tools
Interest in at least one of the following Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) is required:
- SILworX IDE
- SCADE Suite (Display, Architecture) IDE
- Ada programming language IDE
- Visual Studio IDE
- Android Studio IDE
- XCode IDE
Communication Protocols
Basic knowledge or a willingness to learn about Modbus or similar communication protocols and their implementation is expected. These requirements have been established to enhance the quality of work conducted in our laboratory and to ensure that participants can contribute effectively to projects. While knowledge of the specified topics is considered necessary, a willingness to learn these subjects will often be deemed sufficient in many cases.
Online and One-on-One Training
Laboratory Entry Training: Completing Occupational Health and Safety training is mandatory to understand necessary emergency procedures. Our laboratory staff provides this training before laboratory entry. SCADE Training: Students working with SCADE must complete relevant SCADE training courses through the Numesys learning portal (https://learning.numesys.com.tr/pages/login).SILWorX Training: Students working on SILWorX must undergo training provided within the laboratory.
